What is the IRS mileage rate?

As of January 2021, the standard IRS mileage rates for the use of a car (including vans, pickups or panel trucks) is:

  • 56 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 16 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

It’s a good idea to check these rates on the IRS website, to ensure you’re using the latest rates and have correctly classified your vehicle and business purpose. There are penalties for getting it wrong: check with the IRS or seek professional accounting advice if you’re unsure.
